Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. Employment sectors include: social services (working with child welfare, services for the elderly, case management, etc.), community work (child care, community development agencies, non-profit organizations, etc.), corrections (probation, parole, or other criminal justice work), business (particularly in the areas of marketing, human resources, training, and sales), college settings (i.e. admissions and alumni relations), health services (such as family planning, substance abuse, and rehabilitation counseling), government services (i.e. state/local jobs in the areas of housing and labor), and teaching (in conjunction with the appropriate teacher certification).
