During a unanimous vote at last night’s Board of Trustees meeting, Dr. Jeremy Morris was officially hired as Richland’s Vice President of Finance. Dr. Morris will begin his role on May 23 and will replace Greg Florian, who retired last month after almost 25 years of service to the college.
Richland President, Dr. Cris Valdez said, “It is always challenging to replace a person who has been at Richland for almost a quarter century. I am excited about bringing Dr. Morris to Richland. His academic preparation, experience and acumen make him a great fit for the CFO position. I am confident that his skills, strategic thinking and leadership will assist the College in moving forward to an even brighter future.”
Dr. Morris holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Jackson State University, a Master of Business Administration in Marketing/Finance from The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a PhD in Educational Administration and Supervision from Jackson State University.
He has over 25 years serving in progressively responsible finance and leadership positions, including Controller and CFO, five of which were in higher education settings and include auxiliary services, operations, business services and entrepreneurship at two- and four-year institutions, as well as nearly five years as an adjunct instructor teaching courses from Operations Management, Strategic Managerial Communications, Business Fundamentals and Management and Entrepreneurship at the MBA level.
“I am humbled by the opportunity to follow, lead, learn and serve this institution in this great community. Richland has and continues to write a history of changing lives and being the best and first choice for education. I am honored that President Valdez, the Richland Board of Trustees and Search Committee have placed their trust in me to lead the Finance and Administration Division. I look forward to helping continue the legacy of excellence that is Richland Community College,” says Morris.
