Frequently Asked Questions
James Trotter – 16-25, A young man telling the story of the Peach and for much of the play, portraying his younger self.
Old Green Grasshopper – Distinguished gentleman. Voice of reason. Ability to play the violin/viola a plus.
Ladybug – Kind and caring. Takes James under her wing . . . er, elytra.
Miss Spider – She is a talented thread spinner, smart, and quick to help.
Centipede – He is a proud, self-proclaimed pest. Boisterous, loud, and quick with a rhyme or song.
Earthworm – He is also proud, as well as blind and without legs. He is a pessimist and speaks of the dangers and downsides.
Old Man/TV Reporter/Captain of the Queen Mary – A specialty role. Looking for a well-seasoned actor to portray the three lovely character pieces. All three scenes are relatively short, though the Old Man is known to ramble.
The ANTsistants – a group of 5-8 non-speaking company members that do everything from facilitating set and prop changes to puppeteering and generally being overworked by James and the bugs telling their story. They are the one doing the “real work” in the play.
Though we generally prefer 16 and up, we have made exceptions in the past as long as you have reliable transportation to and from rehearsal.

No, you will be reading an excerpt from the play that is listed below. If you have a monologue you would like to present, please do! But it is not required.
We may see a Creature with forty-nine heads
Who lives in the desolate snow,
And whenever he catches a cold (which he dreads)
He has forty-nine noses to blow!
We may see the venomous Pink-Spotted Scrunch
Who can chew up a man with one bite.
It likes to eat five of them roasted for lunch
And eighteen for its supper at night!
We may see a Dragon, and nobody knows
That we won’t see a Unicorn there.
We may see a terrible monster with toes
Growing out of the tufts of his hair!
A Gnu and Gnocerous surely we’ll see
And that gnormous and gnorrible Gnat
Whose sting when it stinks you goes in at the knee
And comes out through the top of your hat!
We may even get lost and be frozen by frost.
We may die in an earthquake or tremor
Or nastier still we may even be tossed
On the horns of a furious Dilemma!
But who cares! Let us go from this horrible hill!
Lt us roll! Let us bowl! Let us plunge!
Let’s go rolling and bowling and spinning until
We’re away from old Spiker and Sponge!
