How can I get a copy of my credit report?
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act credit reports are free under certain circumstances. For a small fee (usually around $9.00) you can request a copy of your credit report at anytime by contacting the three largest credit bureaus.
The three largest credit bureaus are:
- Equifax, Inc: (800) 685-1111
- Experian: (888) 397-3742
- Trans Union Corporation: (800) 888-4213
Credit Counseling Services
These are non-profit services that provide financial counseling to consumers for free or a small charge. They are neither charitable nor lending institutions. To locate the service nearest you visit or call the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at (800) 388-2227.
