Free Paraprofessional & Substitute Teacher Training

Richland Community College, funded through the Grow Your Own Teachers Illinois initiative, is hosting a free two-day workshop designed to support individuals interested in becoming paraprofessionals or substitute teachers. 

Participants will receive training, resources, and the opportunity to connect directly with hiring partners.

WHEN: May 28–29, 2026 from 8:00 AM-3:00 PM

Workshop Details

  • Limited to 75 spots
  • Breakfast & Lunch provided
  • Completion stipend offered 
  • Financial assistance for certification fee

  • Trauma-Informed Practices
  • Classroom Management
  • Cultural Competency
  • Q & A Panel with Decatur School Leaders 

What Participants Can Expect

  • Training and guidance for individuals interested in becoming substitute teachers or paraprofessionals
  • A completion stipend for participants who attend both days
  • Light breakfast, snacks, and lunch provided each day
  • Opportunities to schedule individual appointments with representatives from:
    • Decatur Public Schools
    • Regional Office of Education #39
    • Richland Community College
  • Local education partners will be on-site to discuss employment opportunities, answer questions about substitute and paraprofessional positions, and explain job pathways
  • Representatives from four-year transfer institutions and Richland Community College will also be available to provide information about admissions, registration, financial aid, and scholarships
  • Information about financial assistance for certification fees

Please note: Participants are expected to attend both days of the workshop.
