Radiography Program Requirements
Ethical Requirements
Students in the Radiography Program are expected to meet high standards of ethical and professional conduct. The program’s Professional Integrity Policy and Code of Ethics are based on the ethical standards established by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
All admitted students must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check before participating in clinical education. The background check is coordinated through the Health Professions Office and is included in applicable program fees.
Certain criminal charges, convictions, or other legal matters may affect a student’s eligibility for ARRT certification. Students with concerns regarding their eligibility are responsible for completing the appropriate ARRT ethics review process and obtaining any required determination before beginning clinical education.
Health & Safety Requirements
Clinical affiliation agreements require students to meet established health and safety requirements before participating in clinical education. Requirements may include immunizations, tuberculosis screening, CPR certification, and any other requirements established by the program or its clinical affiliates.
Students must maintain all required documentation throughout the program. Failure to meet or maintain clinical eligibility requirements may prevent participation in clinical education and may affect a student’s ability to continue in the program.
Essential Functions
Students must possess the physical, sensory, communication, and cognitive abilities necessary to safely participate in laboratory and clinical education. These include the ability to:
- move and position patients and imaging equipment safely;
- perform required positioning and equipment-manipulation skills;
- move throughout imaging rooms, patient rooms, surgical areas, and other clinical environments;
- communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals;
- observe and assess patients; and
- evaluate radiographic images and other information necessary for patient care and imaging procedures.
Drug and Alcohol Testing
Admitted students are required to complete an initial drug screening as part of the program’s clinical eligibility requirements. Additional testing may be required in accordance with college, program, or clinical-affiliate policies. Students must remain eligible to participate in clinical education throughout the program.
Health Insurance
Students are encouraged to maintain personal health insurance. Health insurance coverage is not provided by Richland Community College.
