Apply for Admission

New Students

Returning Students

If you are a former student who has not attended classes at Richland in the past year, you must complete an Admission Information Form PDF Document icon prior to enrolling in courses. Your official high school transcripts (or GED certificate) and college transcripts must be on file in the Office of Admissions and Records.

Financial Aid

Visit Financial Aid in room C129 to receive a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form or apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Placement Testing

The following students should complete placement testing in mathematics, reading, and writing (or program-specific areas) in the Testing Center, Room W124:

  • New students or
  • Current or returning students if it has been more than 2 years since you took placement tests and you have not taken any English or math courses. 

Testing is not timed and can take as long as two hours.

Academic Advising

If you have never attended Richland, complete the Student Orientation, Advisement, and Registration (SOAR) program before making an appointment for advisement. Call the Student Services Center at 217-875-7211, Ext. 267 to schedule your orientation session. 

Students may seek assistance with program and course selection through one of the methods listed below.

Walk-in Advisement

Counselors and advisors are available in the Student Services Center, room C129, on a first-come, first-served basis Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Appointments

Call (217) 875-7211, Ext. 267, for an appointment with a counselor/advisor. Appointments are available Monday through Friday.

Faculty Advisement

Have a faculty advisor approve your schedule and review your program before class, after class or during their office hours.

No Advisement Necessary

If you are registering for one course that does not have a prerequisite, go directly to the Office of Admissions and Records, room C128.

Choose Classes

Check the class schedule for the classes you want at the times and locations most convenient for you.

Check Prerequisites

Check the course listings to see if the classes you want have prerequisites. Prerequisites must be met through satisfactory prior coursework, ACT scores, or placement testing before you register.

Register for Class

Complete the Registration Form PDF Document icon and deliver the information requested on the form to the Office of Admissions and Records in room C128 by one of the following methods.

In Person

Visit the Office of Admissions and Records in room C128. Students who register in person will receive immediate confirmation of classes.

By Phone

Call (217) 875-7211, Ext. 267.

If registering by phone, your schedule of classes and invoice will be mailed to you. You will be notified of any scheduling problems within three working days.

By FAX

Fax the registration form to (217) 875-7783, Ext. 267.

If registering by FAX, your schedule of classes and invoice will be mailed to you. You will be notified of any scheduling problems within three working days.

By Mail

Mail your registration form to:

Via the Internet

Log in to WISE-1 for Students and fill out the online registration information and submit it.

If registering via the Internet, your schedule of classes and invoice will be mailed to you. You will be notified of any scheduling problems within three working days.

Pay Tuition

100% of tuition and fees is due two weeks before classes begin. An online payment plan is available. See the payment information for more information.
