"Life Goes On" Organ/Tissue Donor Campaign

In the Spring of 2011, Richland Community College was asked to help promote Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White’s “Life Goes On” organ/tissue donor campaign. The successful state-wide campaign has signed up well over three-million potential donors since it began in 1999.

Richland Community College set a goal of obtaining 100 new donors during the week of April 4 - 8 at the beginning of National “Donate Life” month. Employees and students, throughout the college, put together a campus-wide campaign that was launched early on the Monday morning of campaign week.

Different forms of media that included posters, the college’s campus-wide college vision, and daily postings on Facebook and Twitter were all themed with the campus campaign theme of “Help life go on.” and branded with the Richland logo. Unique videos were created in-house utilizing students, faculty, and staff whose lives have been directly touched by a donor and were then posted on YouTube and shown on campus-vision. Each person in the video was then highlighted in specific marketing pieces throughout the campus and in a prominent display case in the Mueller Student Center. A sign up booth was set up in the student center and staffed from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday during the week of the campaign.

The College’s goal of 100 new donors was successfully met on the Wednesday evening of campaign week, and the campaign’s final tally was 130 new donors in five days. College President, Dr. Gayle Saunders was able to announce the success to Secretary White in person during his visit to the campus on Monday, April 18, 2011.
