EARNING A CERTIFIED PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE (CPT)

The program can start you on an exciting career path in manufacturing that leads not only to great jobs but opens up additional educational opportunities in the field. Richland Community College’s Earn and Learn Manufacturing Program offers Certificate and Associate Degree programs in:

  • Precision Machining - CNC
  • Metal Fabrication - Welding
  • Mechatronics - Electrical
  • Green - Renewable Energy

FLEXIBILITY IS BUILT INTO THIS PROGRAM

Earn portable, stackable certificates, which build upon each other and lead to associate or bachelor’s degrees. Then, choose to go to work, pursue additional certificates or begin work towards a bachelor’s degree. You can even choose to attend full-time or part-time as you work in industry and gain real world experience.

CERTIFIED PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN (CPT)

Certification Program – This 16-credit-hour program builds core competencies to prepare students for internships and entry-level positions in manufacturing. Courses include:

  • Occupational Safety – Introduction to occupational safety and health including instruction leading to the 10-hour and 30-hour OSHA certificates, plus the opportunity to earn Safety Certification through the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC).
  • Metrology & Quality Control – A hands-on introduction to precision measurement and improving quality in the manufacturing setting, plus the opportunity to earn Quality and Measurement. Certification through the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC).
  • Manufacturing Processes – A basic understanding of the various processes including metal fabrication, casting, welding, machining, etc. used in industry, plus the opportunity to earn Maintenance Awareness Certification through the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC).
  • Maintenance Fundamentals – An introduction to mechanical drives, tools used in manufacturing, and preventative maintenance, plus the opportunity to earn Maintenance Awareness Certification through the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC).
  • Blueprint Reading – Provides experience in reading industrial blueprints and some sketching. Students will produce engineering drawings using manual drafting tools and computer-aided design systems.

This program also prepares students for a nationally recognized industry credential offered by the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC). The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA) encourages members to use CPT in their hiring process.
