  • Our Curriculum is based in the Illinois Early Learning Standards with inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach. We also include aspects of the Project Approach and the Creative Curriculum.
  • We are located on the Richland Community College Campus with easy access to many of Decatur’s large employers.
  • Our class size will be 20 children with one teacher and one assistant. We will focus on Kindergarten Readiness skills providing a high-quality early learning program using developmentally appropriate practices.
  • We are a tuition based program serving children age 3, 4, and 5. Our programming is 3 hours per day with both morning and afternoon sessions.
  • Play is very important in an Early Childhood Education classroom. The children will have time to explore the classroom and their own interests during each class session. There will also be direct teacher instruction focused on socialization, early literacy and math skills.
  • Music is a great tool in learning. We will explore musical instruments, sing, dance and listen to a variety of musical genres.
  • Technology will be used in the classroom. The children will have access to computers and a printer for documenting their work and explorations.
  • Our program will draw on the wealth of knowledge available at RCC. We will have guests visit from horticulture, music, dance and other areas that interest the children. We will also go on walking fieldtrips to visit appropriate areas of the College that interest the children.
  • Parents are a child’s first teachers. We will strive to build a partnership with parents where they are welcome in the classroom and comfortable communicating their ideas and concerns.
  • We are committed to collaborating with the community to provide teacher training and professional development for educators.
  • Our program strives to serve a diverse population through promoting understanding, appreciation and respect of all cultures, their history and traditions.
