Richland Community College invites you to join a year-long celebration of its 40th anniversary. In the coming year, the College’s official 40th anniversary logo will be used in place of the current Richland logo. Special events commemorating this milestone will be held beginning August 2011, and will culminate with the President’s Ball in September 2012, and will be targeted toward the College’s community, alumni, and staff.

In an effort to engage the community, the Marketing Department will create and distribute a special-edition President’s newsletter to be distributed once this fall, and again next spring. The College also plans to begin the application process to become a National Tree Campus, with special tree-planting ceremonies and opportunities.

The College will utilize its capabilities through richland.edu during the celebration. Richland.edu will host a photo gallery of favorite Richland photos. In addition to browsing the photos, Web site users will have an opportunity to upload their own photos. A new section of the web site will enable you to wear your school pride by offering official Richland sportswear featuring the 40th Anniversary logo. In addition, a blog page will be dedicated to anyone who wishes to share their favorite Richland memory. Throughout the coming year, a special feature story with a different theme will be presented on the home page each month. Plan on being moved by topics such as “Service to the Community,” “Love is in the Air” (a re-telling of those who have met their significant other at Richland), and “Alumni.”

Do you like Richland? Good! But, do you literally “like” Richland? Like us on Facebook, and you will be able to participate in a photo/trivia question of the day! Prizes will be awarded for those with the most correct answers in a month. Facebook friends will be able to share favorite Richland memories in a “Discussions” tab on the College’s Facebook page.

Anyone who likes to cook, and more importantly, eat, will love the recipe book being compiled by the Culinary Arts Institute at Richland. In keeping with the 40th anniversary theme, the cookbook will feature 40 favorite recipes and will include recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts. The cookbook will be available for purchase in November 2011.

A Founder’s Day Breakfast will be held in April 2012, and community members will also share in the momentous occasion of our 40th anniversary with the President’s Ball in September 2012. This black-tie affair will be one for the memory books, and will be held in the salons of the newly renovated Shilling Education Center.

In the coming year, Richland faculty and staff can look forward to a series of celebrations with the theme of “We’re 40 Because of You.” Special events such as a family picnic and monthly luncheons with the President will be held periodically throughout the year.

The Richland Marketing Department is creating a video called “40 Years in 20 Minutes.” The video will capture reflections from 40 people, including Richland graduates, past and current staff and faculty, and community members whose lives have been touched by Richland. The video will be available on the College’s YouTube channel and on Facebook.

We of course look forward to the start of the Fall 2011 semester, but also look forward to spending an entire year celebrating 40 years of excellence at Richland Community College. We hope you’ll join in the fun!
